"How might we explain all the personas and their scenarios in the complex construction ecosystem?"
This was the challenge in Rhumbix, a technology startup in the construction industry, when we tried to bring our investors, guests, and new hires onboard to our mission. My first hackathon in the first year, I proposed to physicalize our impacts into a tangible visual manner by presenting in a LEGO model. Our CEO and COO loved this idea! I also got a couple of volunteers and ideas from the team to extend the scope when I shared the plan.
Outcome
Here was our outcome by the end of the hackathon.
A LEGO model presented different personas in their contextual environments.
Each persona had basic information printing on a card in front of the model, similar to an art museum.
Once audiences scanned the QR Code on the card, a webpage showed up the corresponding features of Rhumbix products.
A laser carving acrylic lighting contributed as branding in the background.
Personas
Foreman
Craft Worker
Superintendent
Project Accountant
Project Manager
Follow Up
In the second round of the hackathon, I made a webpage for each persona with more details that I learned from the user interviews.
Design Impact
"Thor, you raise the bar of hackathon much higher!" said by CEO Zach S.
The LEGO model is placed near the office entry. It catches visitors' and investors' eye when they visit the first time. Whoever invited guests takes the opportunity to explain what we are doing in Rhumbix. People start realizing how much impact we are making in the industry.
